Épines dorsales (Total): 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 26; Épines anales 3; Rayons mous anaux: 15; Vertèbres: 10 - 16. Presence of a large, dark grey to black sub-basal ovoid spot on the caudal fin and dark stripes on body.
Found among the interstices of overlapping laminar corals or near the bases of whorled corals on coral reef drop-offs in depths of 18-20 m, also in crevices in 15-37 m depth. Solitary (Ref 90102).
