Etymology: Aphyosemion: Greek, aphye, -es, sardine, anchovy + Greek, semeion = mark, signal (Ref. 45335).

Issue
This species is placed in the genus Mesoaphyosemion in CofF ver. July 2011. This is treated here under Aphyosemion following Collier (2006: Ref. 86645), a study dealing on the whole group of Aphyosemion. The species Panchax obscurus Ahl, 1924 is considered valid in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2012: Ref. 89686). It is treated here a synonym of Aphyosemion cameronense (Boulenger, 1903) following van der Zee et al. (2008: Ref. 80395).

Biologia     Glossario (es. epibenthic)

Occurs in swamps, swampy parts of shallow brooks and small streams under dark forest cover on the inland plains rainforest (Ref. 3788). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
