背的軟條 (總數): 8; 臀鰭軟條: 12; 脊椎骨: 33 - 34. This species is distinguished by the following characters: absence of P+1 stripe and P stripe expressed as row of spots posteriorly on side and caudal peduncle; it has a deep body 26.5% SL, short caudal peduncle 17.1-20.5% SL, and long anal-fin base 19.0-21.8% SL; a long maxillary barbel 16.6-23.0% SL, reaching to below pectoral-fin base adults; rostral barbel present; lateral line absent; colour pattern consisting of vertical bars or spots anteriorly on side; branched dorsal-fin rays 7½; circumpeduncular scale rows 10 (Ref. 119087).
This species was collected from the type locality which was a small, shallow stream with clear water, margined by low vegetation, coming out of the forest and crossing a dirt road under a bridge. Associated species found were Paracanthocobitis cf. rubidipinnis, Channa gachua, Pethia meingangbii and P. thelys; and undetermined species of Badis, Dario, Danio and Esomus. The second locality near Htamanthi was a flooded cleared area with stagnant clear water over grasses and a small trickle of stream feeding it and associated species found were the following: Danio cf. quagga, Puntius chola, Pethia meingangbii, Rasbora ornata and undetermined species of Amblyceps and Dario. A female individual as small as 1.66 cm SL was found to have ripening ova (a second female 1.79 cm SL has the same large ovary with ripening ova) (Ref. 119087).
