Etymology: Characidium: Diminutive of Charax, -akos = a fish without identification (Ref. 45335);  travassosi: Named for Haroldo Travassos, deceased Brazilian ichthyologist, in recognition to the contributions he made for the taxonomy of the genus Characidium (Ref. 128858).

Kurzbeschreibung Morphologie | Morphometrie

Wirbelzahl: 35 - 37. This species can be distinguished from its congeners by having naked isthmus (except C. helmeri) with 15-18 principal caudal-fin rays (vs. 19 princial caudal-fin rays) and 10-12 total pectoral-fin rays (vs. 13 or more total pectoral-fin rays). It differs from C. helmeri by the following set of characters: having a slender body; tip of pectoral fin not reaching origin of pelvic fin; tip of pelvic fin not reaching beyond anus, presence of well developed supraorbital; vertically elongated dashes on sides of body absent; and higher number of pored lateral-line scales (Ref. 128858).
