Short description Morfología | Morfometría

Radios blandos dorsales (total): 30; Radios blandos anales: 18; Vértebra: 39. This species is distinguished by having the following characters: spots on the abdominal side; mental barbel very long: 25.2 (26.8) % SL or 61.6 (62.0) % of head length, with esca drastically flattened: its width thickness ratio 3 :1; its surface formed of dense rows of crumped folds that, on intergrowing, form peculiar 'honeycomb;; body with convexitas superaxillaris, very large spherical protrusions found immediately under the base of the pectoral fin which function not only domination but also of antifreeze secretion (Ref. 95070).

The specimens are both spent females with empty ovaries and a small amount of very small eggs at the initial stage of trophoplasmatic growth of oocytes (stage VI - III) (Ref. 95070).
