Western Central Atlantic: Texas to Florida (USA), northern Gulf of Mexico, and Nicaragua. Reported off Suriname (Ref. 13608).

Found on upper continental slopes. Probably forms schools. May also feed communally on large squid that may be too large for a single individual. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205).
