Etymology: Opsariichthys: Greek, opsarion, -ou = a little portion fish + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335); duchuunguyeni: Named for Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc, who has contributed to Vietnamese freshwater fishes research.

الأشعة الظهرية الناعمة (المجموع) : 10; أشعه شرجية لينه: 12; فقرات: 40 - 41. Distinguished from other species of Opsariichthys by the following combination of characters: maxillary barbels absent; anterior notch on tip of upper lip absent; 41 scales on lateral line; 13-14 pre-dorsal scales; body width narrow; maxillary extending to or slightly beyond vertical of anterior margin of orbit; a series of two rows with 12-15 rounded tubercles on lower jaw; pectoral fin extending to origin of ventral fin in adult male; and snout and ventral side of head orange red in adult male in life (Ref. 95038).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Inhabits the upper reach of stream with moderate velocity of clear water and substrate of small and medium pebbles and boulders (Ref. 95038).
