Family:  Xenocyprididae (East Asian minnows)
Max. size:  7.25 cm SL (male/unsexed); 6.1 cm SL (female)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Bang Giang river and Ky Cung river of the Pearl river in Viet Nam.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal soft rays: 12-12; Vertebrae: 40-41. Distinguished from other species of Opsariichthys by the following combination of characters: maxillary barbels absent; anterior notch on tip of upper lip absent; 41 scales on lateral line; 13-14 pre-dorsal scales; body width narrow; maxillary extending to or slightly beyond vertical of anterior margin of orbit; a series of two rows with 12-15 rounded tubercles on lower jaw; pectoral fin extending to origin of ventral fin in adult male; and snout and ventral side of head orange red in adult male in life (Ref. 95038). Description: Dorsal fin rays iii,7; anal fin rays iii,9; pectoral fin rays i,14-15; and pelvic fin rays i,7-8 (Ref. 95038).
Biology:  Inhabits the upper reach of stream with moderate velocity of clear water and substrate of small and medium pebbles and boulders (Ref. 95038).
