الأشواك الظهرية (المجموع) : 6 - 7; الأشعة الظهرية الناعمة (المجموع) : 9; شوكة شرجية: 1; أشعه شرجية لينه: 9. Male with 6 spines in first dorsal fin, female with 5; pectoral rays almost always 15; dusky to blackish band extending midlaterally from behind pectoral base to below origin of second dorsal fin in male and ending as a small spot at hypural base in female; in life male with lower two thirds of body between second dorsal and anal fins, and caudal peduncle bright red.
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Inhabits clear, swift, high gradient streams with bottom of boulders and gravel at elevations of 350 m and 500 m.
