Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 12; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 15-16; Afterflossenstacheln 2; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 12. Body color is yellow. The pectoral, caudal and the rear edge of dorsal and anal fins are sometimes translucent with suffusion of yellow. The upper part of head and the antero-dorsal region of body brownish yellow. There is a pale blue band right below the eye connected with a band of same color running along side of snout. The lips are pale gray or brown. The base of uppermost pectoral ray has a small black spot; dorsal edge of the caudal peduncle, with a black saddle, about size of the eye or smaller.

Adults inhabit inshore and offshore coral reefs (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
