Western Atlantic: Gulf of Mexico to Rio Grande do Sul. North Carolina, Florida, USA, Antilles, Colombia to southern Brazil (Ref. 26938). Also found in Argentina (Ref. 86327)

Morphologie | Morphométrie
Body light brown to chestnut brown in color, head paler; posterior half of tail nearly black, spotted with white roundish markings larger than eye; white and black bands on dorsal fin; corner of mouth and gill openings not black (Ref. 13608).
Lives together in fine sediments of the upper continental slope.
