Épines dorsales (Total): 2 - 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 24-27; Épines anales 0; Rayons mous anaux: 14 - 17; Vertèbres: 24. Typically with two dorsal spines, usually three preopercular spines, large dark-brown rounded spots on anterior portion of body, pores along ventral surface of lower jaw and posterior margin of preopercular large and simple (Ref. 35963).

Inhabits coral reefs (Ref. 5521).
