Inhabits still or slow-flowing waters, usually in rocky pools. Occurs in streams. Usually found close to submerged sandstone boulders, but occasionally seen hovering in mid-water (Ref. 44894). Solitary, often hovering over submerged sandstone boulders, but sometimes forms loose aggregations in mid-water. Males are more colorful and slightly larger than females. Attractive species well suited for captivity, but is unknown to aquarists (Ref. 44894).
