Indo-West Pacific: Tosa Bay, Japan to Celebes Sea. Also recorded from Indonesia and northwestern Australia (Ref. 5978). Also reported from New Caledonia, Philippines and Guam (Ref. 9771).

A deepwater species. Occurs on the continental shelf and slope (Ref. 9563). Bony scutes reduce commercial value (Ref. 9771).
