Indian Ocean: East and west coasts of India and Vietnam. Generally confused with other sillaginids in commercial catches.

Dorsal spines (total): 12 - 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21 - 22; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 22 - 23; Vertebrae: 34. This species is distinguished by the following characters: total vertebrae 34, midline of body with a dark black band; 8-9 lateral processes along entire lateral side of main body of swimbladder, 2 posterior extensions of the swimbladder (Ref. 93385).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal; Cross section: oval.
Inhabit inshore coastal waters (Ref. 6205). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Also caught using driftnets and mini-trawlers.
