Family:  Sillaginidae (Smelt-whitings)
Max. size:  34 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 30 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: East and west coasts of India and Vietnam. Generally confused with other sillaginids in commercial catches.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-22; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 22-23; Vertebrae: 34-34. This species is distinguished by the following characters: total vertebrae 34, midline of body with a dark black band; 8-9 lateral processes along entire lateral side of main body of swimbladder, 2 posterior extensions of the swimbladder (Ref. 93385).
Biology:  Inhabit inshore coastal waters (Ref. 6205). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Also caught using driftnets and mini-trawlers.
