Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 8; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 9; Taggstrålar i analfenan 2; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 8. This species is distinguished by the following characters: brownish-red irregular spots on body; usually 9 pored lateral-line scales; alternating markings on second dorsal, anal and caudal fins; juveniles and young individuals with three regular bars on body (Ref. 97601).
