Occurs mainly in the vicinity of or amongst marginal vegetation, only rarely over exposed sandy beaches away from rooted plants (Ref. 4983). Does not enter deeply into the marginal swamps and is rarely recorded at the swamp ends of inlets. A common gut content is a barely recognizable mush of plant debris, both algal & phanerogamic, with blue-green algae predominating. Also Diptera larvae, plant epidermis, diatoms & filamentous green algae (Ref. 558).
