Etymology: Bedotia: After Maurice Bedot, 1859-1927; born in Geneva, systematist on Hydrozoan; alveyi: This species is named in honour of Dr. Mark Alvey (FMNH) in recognition of his tremendous efforts to promote natural history research and species discovery during his tenure as Administrative Director of Academic Affairs (Ref. 84245).
