Etymology: Apionichthys: Greek, apion = pear + Greek, ichthys = fish; it also exists "a-pion", no fatty (Ref. 45335); seripierriae: Named after Dione Seripierri, head Librarian at Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo.
Eponymy: Dione Seripierri is head librarian at Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo. She co-wrote: The Entomological Collection of Ricardo von Diringshofen (1900–1986) and its incorporation to the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (2016). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

ຄີຫຼັງຂອງປາ (ຄີອ່ອນ) (ທັງໝົດ) : 69 - 78; ຄີກົ້ນຂອງປາ: 51 - 58; ສັດທີ່ມີກະດູກສັນຫຼັງ: 39 - 40. Uniformly brown background coloration without blotches and 6 dark, very narrow stripes along trunk, 3 stripes above and 3 below lateral line; scale margins are also darker than in other congeneric species; elongate body shape, small eye (5-6% HL) and a wide, variable interorbital space (200-300% of eye); absence of scales on the interorbital space and presence of a gill opening on both sides of the head (Ref. 49504).
