Etymology: Ompok: It is a bad reproduction of a Malayam fish name as limpok/ompok (Ref. 45335); rhadinurus: From the Greek rhadinos, meaning tapering, and ourus, meaning tail; in reference to the slender caudal peduncle of this species.

Inhabits large, slow flowing rivers and lakes (Ref. 52514) and swamps (Ref. 56749). Juveniles sometimes occur in smaller streams (Ref. 52514). Feeds on smaller fishes and crustaceans (Ref. 52514).
