Etymology: Aphyosemion: Greek, aphye, -es, sardine, anchovy + Greek, semeion = mark, signal (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Guido Passaro of Ludwigsburg is a German aquarist. He, along with Wolfgang Eberl, first collected this species (1993) in a shallow stream by a roadside in Cameroon. They took specimens back to Germany, where they were bred for the aquarium trade. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
