Description synthétique Clés d'identification | Morphologie | Morphométrie

Two black spots at caudal base. Pigmentation (Gambetta's longitudinal zone of pigmentation): presence of a narrow line of minute spots, usually ending below or in front of dorsal origin on zone Z3 in males. In mature males, zones Z2 and Z4 often continuous dark stripes. One lamina circularis (Ref. 59043).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.

Biologie     Glossaire (ex. epibenthic)

Found in lakes, rivers, brooks and irrigation channels with still or moderately flowing water on sand, gravel or mud bottom, often with vegetation (Ref. 59043). Oviparous, with distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Females mature at 2 years of age (Ref. 59043).

During courtship, 'the male follows the female and, after both enter dense vegetation (e.g. filamentous algae), the male forms a complete ring around the female's body behind the dorsal as the female releases the eggs' (Ref. 59043).
