Etymology: Brachyhypopomus: Greek, brachys, eia = short + Greek, hypo = under + Greek, poma, -atos = cover (Ref. 45335); pinnicaudatus: Specific name is derived from the Latin pinna, meaning feather, and caudatus, meaning tailed, because of the distinctive compressed and "feather-like" appearance of the caudal filament of the male.
