Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 23 - 26; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 47 - 53; Ryggkotor: 54 - 60. This species is distinguished by the following characters: body slender, moderately long, its depth 6-11% SL; verrtebrae 14-16 + 40-44 = 54-60; anal fin and caudal fin fused only at base, completely disjunct beyond base; head blunt, the lateral edges with protuberance due to opercular muscles, proportionately short, about 15-17% SL; pectoral fin spine with 4-8 distinct sharp serrae (Ref. 131939).
Cross section: circular.
Occurs in shaded blackwaters in coastal peat swamps about 20 m from the sea, among submerged shore vegetation and branches at a depth between 0.5 and 1.5 m (Ref. 12325).
