Etymology: Nimbochromis: Latin, nimbus = stormy, rainy + Greek, chromis, a fish, perhaps a perch; it has dark clouded melanic blotches on the body (Ref. 45335); linni: Named in honour of Dr. Wayne Linn, a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer working with the Malawi Fisheries Department (Ref. 55922).
Eponymy: Dr DeVon Wayne Linn was Chief Fisheries Officer, Malawi (1973–1975) while serving in the US Peace Corps. He was honoured as his assistance to the junior author made Axelrod’s field trip to Lake Malawi possible. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

描述: 像長鼻一樣的吻; 頭部的腹面輪廓平坦的; 在頜的外部齒矮胖的與雙尖的, 在最大的標本中混合主要微弱雙與單犬齒; 在頜的內部齒矮胖的﹐三個尖頭的與些微後彎; 在頰上的 3個成列的鱗片; 低的咽頜寬的與淺灘; 咽齒廣泛地豎立, 銳利而矮胖的, 但是不是增大; 鰓耙正常-大小或些微地平的略微短又最大的一些但是不是 polyfid; 在側線的上半部中的 24-26個鱗片,15-16 在較下面的部位中; 在胸鰭與腹鰭之間的 5-6 鱗片.(參考文獻 55463)
體色 活的: 黑色素圖案當在保存的標本中; 求偶的彩色斑紋覆蓋有斑點的圖案在雄性與雌性中.(參考文獻 55463) 成魚的具有領域性的雄性: 不輕易觀察得出的有斑點的圖案; 背鰭、尾鰭與臀鰭藍色; 背鰭有橘色的垂部與白色的靠近邊緣的條紋; maculae 與陷紋不發展良好的; 臀鰭黃色的/橘色的末梢部地; 具有藍灰色色的胸鰭透明; 腹鰭灰色的有白色的前緣.(參考文獻 55463) 雌性: 背景顏色白色的或黃色的有許多深褐色的小斑點與斑點, 到一大的延伸在背鰭、尾鰭與臀鰭上排列成列.(參考文獻 55463) 介於雌性的圖案與雄性成魚圖案之間的不成熟而非具有領域性的雄性的彩色斑紋, 在身體有上有一個藍色的逐漸增加強烈逐漸增加的領域性。 (參考文獻 55463) 保護: 在頭部, 身體與鰭上的有斑點的圖案, 有時困難的見然後只有觀察得出的在每個個別的鱗片上作為一個深色與淡顏色的圖案; 基本身體黃色到褐色的; 典型的 Nimbochromis-斑塊的圖案模糊而困難的見; 背鰭垂部, 腹鰭與臀鰭的下緣的蔓延邊緣微白色的; 在尾鰭的 maculae 在小的標本 (<113.5 mm) 中排列成垂直的列了。 (參考文獻 55463)
