Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic: off southern Patagonia along the Argentine slope to 40°S and the Chilean coast to about 46°S. Southwest Pacific: on the rises to the east and south of New Zealand and off New South Wales and Tasmania in Australia.

Spine dorsali (totale) : 0; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 65 - 71; Spine anali: 0; Raggi anali molli: 52 - 56; Vertebre: 51 - 53. Eye large, its diameter equal or greater than postorbital length of the head. Chin barbel present. Color pale pinkish; dorsal fin dusky distally; a dark spot at the tip of the first dorsal fin (Ref. 1371). Usually unpaired fins margined with black (Ref. 27363).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: oval.
A benthic species found on the continental slope (Ref. 75154). Living from the inner shelf, in far southern South America, to depths beyond 1000 m.
