Etymology: Cathorops: Greek, kathorao = to observe, to watch + Greek, ops = appearance (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Ignác (Ignatius) Fürth was the Austrian Consul (1871) at Panama. He donated many fish specimens to the Vienna Museum. (Despite the name ‘Congo’ Sea Catfish, the species is found in Central America!) (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
