Dorsal soft rays (total): 21 - 28; Vertebrae: 34 - 36. Has 33-34 (usually 35-38) lateral line scales; 16-20 circumpeduncular scales; 21-28 branched dorsal rays; caudal and dorsal fins dusky, without well-defined color patterns (Ref. 27732). Body with evenly pronounced longitudinal stripes formed by a spot on each scale (Ref. 7424).

Known from midwater to bottom depths in rivers and streams (Ref. 12693). Enters flooded fields (Ref. 12975). Found in the basin-wide tributary of the lower Mekong (Ref. 36667). Feeds on phytoplankton, periphyton, benthic algae, zooplankton (Ref. 12693), detritus and insect larvae (Ref. 56749).
