Etymology: Fundulopanchax: Latin, fundus = bottom; a peculiar name for a topminnow, coined for a bottom species of Atlantic coast being "the abode of the fundulus mudfish" + Greek, soma = body.

Occurs in brooks under forest cover on soils of the basement complex and volcanic soils. 6 cm TL (Ref. 3788). Not a seasonal killifish. Is easy to maintain in the aquarium (Ref. 27139).
