Etymology: Triplophos: Greek, triplos = three + Greek, phos = light.
Eponymy: Captain Thomas Henry Heming RN (d: 1856) was (1898–1907) Commander, Royal Indian Marine Survey Steamer ‘Investigator’ from which the holotype was collected. He carried out soundings in the Humber estuary (1909). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Yellowish-brown in color, black on head and abdomen, fins colorless (Ref. 3991). Short trunk, long tail, anterior dorsal fin and short toothed of the maxillary (Ref. 37473).
