Family:  Gonostomatidae (Bristlemouths)
Max. size:  36 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 200 - 2000 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Tropical waters of all oceans; to 18°S in eastern Atlantic.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 53-67. Yellowish-brown in color, black on head and abdomen, fins colorless (Ref. 3991). Short trunk, long tail, anterior dorsal fin and short toothed of the maxillary (Ref. 37473).
Biology:  From 200-800 m in tropical waters.
