Etymology: Symphurus: Greek, syn, symphysis = grown together + Greek, oura = tail (Ref. 45335); undecimplerus: Named derived from the Latin 'undecim' meaning eleven, and 'pleurus' meaning many or most, referring to the 11 caudal fin rays and high meristic values when compared to S. melasmatotheca.
