Etymology: Gobionellus: Diminutive of Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335).

This species is synonym of Gobionellus boleosoma (Jordan & Gilbert, 1882) in CofF ver. October 2016 following personal communications with experts. Please send references and the species page will be removed.
