RFLP analysis using new specific primers designed from rainbow trout sequence revealed restriction site variation for mtDNA segments ND1, ND3/4 and ND5/6. Eleven haplotypes were detected in a screening of 30 individuals from four European populations (Ref. 27357). The occurrence of farm genotypes and independent occurrence of mtDNA and minisatellite markers in several parr samples taken from rivers (one of which is adjacent to a juvenile rearing farm) in NW Ireland implies that escaped juveniles from the farm were able to complete their life cycle, breed and interbreed with native fish would probably change the genetic makeup of the wild population (Ref. 27383). |
