Comments: Recorded from Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, Guerrero, Morelos, Chiapas, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, Veracruz and Tabasco (Ref. 13444). Found in the Ayuquila River, below the Atlán valley (Ref. 27639).

Inhabits clear streams and rivers over sand and gravel, but also found in turbid waters with muddy bottoms. Prefers clear flowing, well oxygenated streams. Feeds mainly on filamentous algae (Ref. 13444).
