Comments: Available throughout the country but not abundant anywhere. Largest specimen of 61 cm and 1.36 kg was recorded from Nastaganga fishery of Sylhet. Also Ref. 4832, 39989, 41236, 56321.

Asia: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar (Ref. 4832). Recorded from Afghanistan (Ref. 41034) and Nepal (Ref. 9496).

Adults inhabit rivers. They spawn during the southwest monsoon. Do not normally breed in ponds. Artificial breeding done through hypophysation. Cultured in ponds along with other carp species.
