Espinhos dorsais (total): 9; Raios dorsais moles (total): 27-30; Espinhos anais 3; Raios anais moles: 24 - 28. Gill rakers on first gill arch short, broad, and well separated. Third fin dorsal spine 25-32%SL. Attains 15 cm SL (P. Heemstra, personal communication 10/02).

Found on the continental shelf (Ref. 75154). Larvae are pelagic (Ref. 68964).
