পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ): 17 - 19; পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ): 8-9; পায়ূ কাঁটা 3; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 7 - 8. Nanochromis teugelsi is characterized by the absence of scales on nape, cheeks, and chest, but is has a fully scaled opercle (Ref. 57723). It has an elevated upper lateral line, with about half or more contiguous with the dorsal-fin base; it has 15-23 upper lateral-line scales and 4-8 lower lateral-line scales (Ref. 57723). It is also characterized by the absence of a supraneural bone (Ref. 57723).
