Etymology: Diaphus: Greek, dis, dia = through + Greek, physa, phyo = to beget, to have as offspring (Ref. 45335);  basileusi: Named in honor of B.G. Nafpaktitis for his important research on the systematics of Myctophidae (genus Diaphus) (Ref. 43965).

Description synthétique Morphologie | Morphométrie

Épines dorsales (Total): 0; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 15; Épines anales 0; Rayons mous anaux: 14 - 15; Vertèbres: 35. Inner row teeth of lower jaw considerably enlarged and equidistant from one another; dorsal-nasal gland about equal in size to the trunk photophore, not immersed in tissue underlay, aligned sideways and fully disconnected from ventral-nasal gland; suborbital and anterorbital glands and hook-shaped teeth in posterior part of upper jaw missing (Ref. 43965).
