Found in Ulocentra habitats of bedrock and gravel pool areas in small creeks to moderate-sized rivers. Abundant in cool upland streams, but extends into warm-water habitats in the Conasauga River. Usually associated with lush growths of Podostemum (a river weed), where its green banding provides good camouflage. Observed perched high on bedrock profusions with few river weed growth (Ref. 10294).
