Restricted to brackish water habitats, endemic to Black and Caspian Seas. (Ref. 92840). Occurs inshore, among boulders, rocks, stones and Cystoseira (Ref. 4696) but is also known to live over gravelly bottoms offshore, away from inlets (Ref. 2058).
