Africa: Endemic to Lake Tanganyika except the north end.
Solitary adults inhabit rubble areas in shallow water, most often not exceeding 10 m depth and never exceeding 10 m. Feed on the biocover (Ref. 6770). Females brood their young in the mouth (Ref. 86760).
