Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, fairly common (Ref. 59365) and distributed throughout the lake (Ref. 78218).

Found in littoral to benthic zones over shell (Ref. 59365), sand and mud bottoms (Ref. 4967, 59365). Has been captured from depths of 120-140 m (Ref. 27623). Diet consists of gastropods, lamellibranchs, insect larvae, ostracods and shrimps (Ref. 36901). Oviparous (Ref. 205).
