Etymology: Sinocyclocheilus: Latin, sino, sina = from China + Greek, kyklos = circle + Greek, cheilos = lip (Ref. 45335); wanlanensis: Name 'wanlanensis' from the type locality of the species, Wanlan Town, Zhenfeng County.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal soft rays: 5. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: absence of horn-like structure; absence of eyes or degenerated into dark spots; a distinct nuchal hump; predorsal profile distinctly arched; tip of adpressed rostral barbel extending posteriorly not reaching vertical through anterior margin of sunken eye or dark spot; tip of pelvic-fin rays reaching anus when pelvic-fin rays extended backward; a distinct head shape protruding forward, resembling a duck’s beak; body scaleless; in life, body light golden brown; lateral line pores 41-45; and gill rakers well developed, 9 on first gill arch (Ref. 137885).
