This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: 45-46 vertebrae; D 15, A 25-26; absence of a series of black spots along the anal-fin base; emarginate caudal fin; the anal and the urogenital openings situated at a vertical through the centrum of the 23rd or 24th vertebrae; the anal-fin origin at a vertical through the centrum of the 24th or 25th vertebrae; the mesehtmoid axis not completely over its cornu; a longer maxillary barbel, its tip reaching the first anterior 50% of the orbit length; more premaxillary teeth; lateral-line pores 3; a wider frontal, its anterior half approximately four times its posterior half width; ossified and maxilla; broad joint between quadrate and hyomandibula; longer posterodorsal process of hyomandibula, its length 20% of hyomandibula length; broad opercular patch of odontodes; interopercular odontodes 4; the upper hypural plate cartilage occupying about 50% of its area; absence of a proximal, distal and ventral cartilages on ventral hypohyal; absence of a lateral process on basibranchial 4; the presence of a cartilage block on the lateral process of autopalatine; the presence of a well developed ossification on proximal margin of ventral hypohyal; the presence of hypobranchial foramen; presence of an anterior joint between quadrate and base of posterodorsal process of hyomandibula (Ref. 137638).
