Etymology: Liopropoma: Greek, leio = smooth + Greek, pro = in front of + Greek, poma, -atos = cover, operculum (Ref. 45335); terecaudum: Name from Latin 'teres' meaning 'rounded' and 'cauda' for 'tail', referring to its diagnostic rounded caudal fin.

Dorsal spines (total): 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 10; Vertebrae: 24. This species is distinguished by the following characters: with an indistinct notch between spinous and soft dorsal fin; caudal fin rounded; D VIII,13; anterior portion of palatine tooth bands is broad, with ca. 6-8 rows of small villiform teeth. Colouration: body pink to red, a broad deep red stripe above body axis, extending from the tip of snout to upper half of caudal fin base; with a large deep red blotch at caudal fin base; the posterior margin of the caudal fin is white when fresh, becoming grey in preservation (Ref. 137547).

Based on the method of collection and syntopic fishes this species was collected with, it occurs presumably on rocky reef bottom or slope at the lower mesophotic or rariphotic zones (Ref. 137547).
