Dorsal soft rays (total): 11; Anal soft rays: 13; Vertebrae: 30. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: pelvic fin and pelvic girdle absent or extremely reduced; black band on whole caudal-fin margin present in males, typically more conspicuous on dorsal and ventral portion; conspicuous, wide dark brown bars, oblique anteriorly and wide chevron-like marks posteriorly to middle of flank (Ref. 133464).

The species was collected from a small, partially dammed clear-water stream (2.0-8.0 m wide, 0.3-2.5 m deep) with moderate flow, submerged vegetation, grassy banks, and a sand-mud substrate (Ref. 133464).
