Etymology: Bassozetus: Latin, bassus = thick, fat + Greek, ketos = marine mosnter, whale (Ref. 45335); trachibranchus: trachibranchus'(Greek), i.e. 'trachys', means coarse and 'branchion' means gills. Refers to numerous small tooth patches found along the lower limbs of the species (Ref. 123866).
