背面の脊椎 (合計) : 2; 背鰭 (合計) : 6 - 7; 肛門の骨: 1; 臀鰭: 5; 脊つい: 28. Can be diagnosed from its congeners by having shorter pectoral-fin spine length (18.6-21.3 vs. 21.4-30.4% SL in remaining species). Additional characters useful for its identification include lower caudal peduncle (7.6-9.0 vs. 9.3-11.0 in Otothyropsis marapoama and 9.7-11.5% SL in Otothyropsis piribebuy), deeper caudal peduncle (7.6-9.0 vs. 6.2-7.6% SL in Otothyropsis polyodon); and dorsal-fin spinelet triangular in shape (vs. spinelet rectangular or quadrangular) (Ref. 93039).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Commensal with midge larvae (Chironomidae) which are attached to the gill opening or more rarely to the posterior process of the cleithrum (Ref. 93039).
